If your loved one was a Veteran, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may provide financial assistance to help cover funeral and burial expenses. What Benefits Are Available?
Depending on eligibility, the VA may provide:

- Up to $780 toward funeral and burial expenses
(if the Veteran was hospitalized by the VA at the time of passing) - Up to $300 toward funeral and burial expenses
(if the Veteran was not hospitalized by the VA) - Up to $780 for a plot or interment allowance
(if the Veteran is not buried in a national cemetery)
- Up to $780 toward funeral and burial expenses
What You’ll Need to Apply
To receive these benefits, you’ll need a few documents. Don’t worry—we can help you gather everything.
Required:
- Proof of death (official documentation)
Plus one of the following:
✔ Receipts showing payments made for funeral or burial services
OR
✔ A statement of account from the funeral home or cemetery that includes:
- The Veteran’s name
- Services and merchandise provided
- Itemized costs
- Any payments or credits
- Remaining balance (if applicable)

- Complete VA Form 21P-530 (Application for Burial Allowance)
- Mail it to your state’s Pension Management Center
